A Lazy Girl’s Guide – Wearing Make up on a Daily Basis

Hello all! Been a long time.

We all go through the same battle every morning – to get up early and get ready or sleep for just 5 more minutes. If you’re like me, you know the struggle of choosing between some extra minutes of sleep or struggling to look good. And guess what, sleep usually wins! However, with some time and experimenting I finally came up with a routine for myself to not look like a homeless person and also get my extra minutes of sleep!

Yes, the basic thing is to get up earlier than you do. But not everyone can do so since many of us are usually working late at night or our routine is set in a way that you just cannot wake up early no matter what [Like me! :(]- whatever the reason maybe, there are other ways to deal with it.

So I came up with this brief guide to help all university, college or office go-ers getting a simple yet minimal look in no time! And no it does not involve getting up early. Here’s how:

1. Create a specific routine – never wear make up haphazardly. Develop a specific pattern like first going for a BB/CC cream or tinted moisturiser, then your eye liner and mascara, blush and lip colour. Not only will this save some extra time, but also will help you to cope with the morning stress. It is also good to break away from your routine once in a while to do something new!
2. Multi-task products – I personally love doing this! This simply means that you can buy or choose products which you have multiple uses. Like using a lipstick both as a blush and a lip colour or using mascara on your eyelashes and slightly combing on your brows to tame them.
ELF HD Blush – Can be used BOTH as a cheek and lip stain!

3. Go for simple techniques – this is not the time to try out a new cat eye or any other complicated make up routine. Go for the usual simple look and nothing too dramatic for a day time look.

4. Keep tissues or make up remover close by – since you are in a hurry you are bound to make some mistakes. Make sure to have a make up remover, tissue or simple concealer at hand so that you can correct your eye-liner or mascara stain whenever needed.

5. Use lighter colours – It is DAY time. So use light and neutral colours to enhance your features. Ditch the usual black eye-liner and opt for colourful eye pencils. They can make you look much awake and brighter than usual!

6. Do not go overboard – Falsies and heavy contour looks amazing, but not for the day. Always remember to keep your look natural and well-balanced.
YES to this!
Nope Nope

7. Keep a set time limit to do your hair and make  up – For example, 1 minute for your face, another Minute or two for eye-liner, a minute for your blush and lipstick etc. In this way you can divide your total available time in simpler steps to effectively utilise it.

8. Keep it simple, silly! – A day to day look is free of any complicated routines. Say no to heavy contour, overdone brows, baking or falsies. Keep the drama for a night time look. However, switch to more natural techniques like using a light bronzer for a very minimal contour and using a brow pencil with light strokes to shape your brows. Remember you are running out of time. So, keep it simple and easy.

Beautiful, but ONLY when you got time!

9. Change it up – It is a good thing to change your routine every now and then. Always using the same techniques or the same face can bore you off too! So add some pop of colour on your eye or lip or go liner free every once in a while to change the whole look. Everyone will notice!

10. Plan before hand – A very simple trick I love doing is keeping my daily used products in a separate box or basket. This will reaaallly help to reduce time finding things in morning or to struggle arranging everything. I love my products to be well placed and having a separate make up box works very well!

So girls, I hope you all can benefit from this post one way or the other. let me know your way of getting ready in the morning. What do you do?
Until next time,

Zap the Zit

Hey guys! Hope you all are doing great.
Since Ramadan is coming up and so are my finals, here’s a quick quick post before I go MIA!
Pimples, acne, zit – Whatever you call it, you know how badly it sucks! We’ve all had them or have them and we all certainly hate them. Summer is the season of acne/pimples. Specially for people with oily or acne-prone skin, it’s a living hell. Everything you do, makes you breakout!
So why do we have them, just why? Here are a few ‘scientific’ reasons.
1. You don’t keep your face clean i.e sleep with make up on, or don’t wash your face after heavy sweating/gym.
2. You use products that irritate you skin – mostly perfumes do that, but can be other ingredients too.
3. Nature – Your skin is naturally sensitive and acne-prone.
4. Your diet – high amount of sugar, oils, spices or drinking very less amount of water can also cause acne.
5. You share your make up and brushes.
6. Hormonal imbalance/Puberty
7. Over-scrubbing/exfoliating
8. Stress
9. Picking on/touching your pimples just make it worse. It also spreads from one part to another
10. Other problems in your system
Pimples can very well indicate some ongoing problem inside your body. This is classified according to the area where you have increased number of breakouts.
A pimple is generally of two types:
A simple-small whiteheaded zit, or a painful, big old cystic-type pimple.
How to zap the Zit?
The first time I see a pimple, I have this really strong urge to just pop it and make it go away. But remember, this is just going to make it worst! LEAVE YOUR PIMPLE ALONE!
This is the simplest, most-effective thing to do. It goes away within a week. But if you disturb it, it’s going to leave a very bad mark!
HELP, I have to go somewhere and this pimple just popped up!
Is it me or honestly whenever I have to attend a wedding/function, a pimple appears out of nowhere. What sorcery is this? Here’s how to deal with it:
1. If it’s a huge, swollen and red cyst like pimple, just leave it alone. Apply some ice on top of it to calm the redness. You can use a green colour-corrector. But I will always recommend to just let it be. It’ll be gone soon, I promise.
2. If you have a whiteheaded, small pimple, the first thing to do is take a small cloth/towel and run it under hot water. Put the cloth on pimple for 10 seconds or so. And repeat.
Other Options are:
  • Spot treatment – combine Honey, Lemon, Cinnamon and Nutmeg  powders and apply with a q-tip on the spot. Do this at night.
  • Use an equal mixture of calamine lotion and tea tree oil. Apply with a q-tip on the area.
  • Rub banana peel on your zit
  • Rub some ice
  • It is often said, that Aspirin works well for acne too, since it has salicylic acid which is anti-Inflammatory. Use a face wash/cleanser containing SALICYLIC ACID for great results.
Here are some personal recommendations for acne-prone skin:
Personal Favourite
Amazing product
Use it as a spot treatment
Additional Tips
1. Drink water. Drink loads and loads of it.
2. Use detox water. It helps to detoxify your system, and clears your body of toxins.
3. Increase uptake of vegetables, fresh fruits.
4. Decrease spicy/oily food.
5. NEVER sleep with make up on. Always wash your face with a good cleanser and use a toner to help clarify your skin.
6. If your skin is acne-prone, use make up made for your skin.
7. If you have a very severe skin issue PLEASE go see a Dermatologist ASAP. Some things can not be treated by conventional methods.
Hope this helped you guys! for any further questions, do comment and let me know ❤

How to – Simplify your Make up Routine for Summers

The sun is shining with it’s full glory. I love summers, but the humidity-not so much. Summer is so anti-make up! So today, I am going to be sharing some tips and tricks on how to look fab even in this climate!

For summers: less is more. Although you can wear whatever you want (no rules in make up), the basic thing to remember is to keep it lightweight. Use waterproof but lightweight formulas. The key is to let your skin breathe and not choke your pores!      Let’s break it down, step by step:

1. Prep your skin

  • Make sure to start with a fresh, clean skin. I always use a cleanser to wash my skin. Let it dry naturally.
  • If you have oily skin, make sure to use a toner. This is going to make your skin oil-free. I have a combination skin, which becomes oily in summers, so I personally prefer using rose water as a toner.
2. Foundation/Base
  • Aforementioned, it’s better to stick to light-weight products. A foundation can be heavy on your skin, and can be very much visible in natural lighting. So I always prefer using a BB cream.
  • Sun screen is a MUST. Combine it with your base/BB cream
  • I always use 1 part Sun Screen and 1 part liquid foundation or mostly BB cream. Mix it in my palm and apply on skin as usual! It works perfectly for summers
  • If you have an extremely oily skin, you can skin the foundation totally, and go only for a BB cream
  • As always, slightly dust with some translucent powder or a compact. Use a blush brush to dust over, specially on your oily areas
3. Eye Makeup
  • Do use a primer. It really helps the eye liner stay put throughout the day.
  • Avoid wearing any dark eye shades or eye liners
  • Go for colourful eye liners. They can really brighten up and open your eyes.
  • Use waterproof mascara (As it’s sweat proof too)
  • Remember to go easy on the make up. A coloured eye liner, or a simple black eye liner is more than enough for the day.
  • For eyebrows, I prefer using a pencil with small, soft strokes
4. Face
  • Conceal only if required.
  • Use a cream blush. A cream formula is very long lasting. However, if you feel it is heavy on your skin, a powder works fine
  • Avoid any contouring. Seriously, it’s summer! You don’t need a bronzer to look tan lol
  • I don’t really recommend highlighting heavily, as your face can look sweaty, but if you do want to highlight your cheekbones, a powder formula is a good option
5. Lips
  • For lips, avoid heavily lining your lips
  • Use a bright, fun colour. It can really give your look a nice boost
  • Matte lipsticks are preferred, but glossy isn’t so bad. In the end, it’s all about your personal preference
LASTLY, set your makeup with a good setting/finishing spray. This will really help your makeup to last long. I use a DIY-spray, and i loooove it. 😀
Hope this post helped you out! Let me know in the comments below 😀

Much love,

Medora Matte Lipsticks – Review and Swatches

Hey guys! Hope you all are doing great.

So, I thought I’d review some of the medora matte lipsticks I bought just recently. They’ve been around for quite a long time, but now they are again getting some hype these days, so I thought why not buy some of them and test them out!

I bought three different colours, to check out the pigmentation and how long they last. Besides ‘matte’, medora also has ‘glossy’ lipsticks.

Medora lipsticks are formulated with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. These two ingredients make them very soft to apply, and give a matte finish.

These are the three colours that I bought:

1. Glamour

A smooth, nude-ish pink colour. A pretty colour to wear on a day to day basis, or pair with a heavy eye for an overall balanced look.

2. Shocking Pink

Now this is one of my favourites. I’m a fan of pinks, and this is an amazing pink lippie. The pigmentation in this one is perfect and the matte formula also makes it more perfect. Pair with a simple winged eyeliner, or plain nude eyes!
3. Cherry Wood

A darker, brownish colour. Not the colour I normally wear. But then again, if you’re looking for a brown lipstick with a matte formula, this is a good option!
Glamour, Shocking Ping, Cherry Wood (Under normal lighting)
Under Flash

After washing and scrubbing off

 What’s to like:

  • Glides on very smoothly
  • Soft formula
  • Very pigmented
  • Matte
  • Stays on for a good period of time
  • Doesn’t comes off that easily
  • Super super cheap
  • Easily available throughout Pakistan

What’s not to like:

  • Some people might not like the strong scent

Available throughout Pakistan only for PKR 110.

Would I recommend?
If you’re looking for a matte lipstick, with a smooth formula and something that’s affordable and easily available then YES this one’s for you!

Hope this was helpful! Let me know what other pretty shades to try out and I shall. 😀

Much Love.

The Oil Cleansing Method

On a day-to-day basis, we tend to use many products on our skin. From a basic cleanser, to scrub, to face mask and what not. Cleansing your face is a part of a daily ritual many women observe.

Why is a facial cleanser bad for my skin?
Your normal face wash or cleanser contains many harsh chemicals that eventually strip your skin off its natural oils. This can lead to increased production of oil causing clogged pores, blemishes, blackhead and acne!
How does this method works?
Chemistry 101: Like dissolves like.
So basically, when you use an external oil, you’re  replacing the unwanted, pore-clogging oil on your face with a natural oil which is filled with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. How cool is that!
Advantages of this method
  • Skin becomes free of blackheads, acne, pimples
  • Cleaner pores
  • Fresher and softer skin
  • Natural method, so no chemical harm
  • No need to use a separate makeup remover, as oil can serve that purpose too
  • Easy to do
  • No separate moisturiser needed afterwards
  • Can be a little costly, depending on the oil used
  • You might face some difficulty finding the right oil type
  • Coconut and olive oil cannot be used, as they are comedogenic (clog pores)
Can I use it on acne/pimples?
YES, why not? Oil has anti-inflammatory properties so it can reduce your acne, pimples! But it’s important to use the appropriate type. Don’t use coconut or olive oil though, as they can worsen your acne. Use peppermint or tea tree oil which are natural astringents.
To get the maximum benefits, two important things to note:
  • Use oil according to your face type
  • Use warm water
You can use this method once a day, preferably at night. Use it for more than a week to start seeing some difference in your skin. Your skin may take some time to get used to it, and once it does you’ll be hooked, trust me!
What Oil to Use?
Your basic oil is CASTOR OIL. Since it is a little thick and potent, it is better to dilute it with some carrier oil according to your skin type. Here’s a little guide:
The Actual Method
  • Take some amount of oil in your hands, a little more than a teaspoon or more according to your requirement
  • Apply and massage it on your face. Take your time, massage nicely, make sure you reach all your face to completely remove your make-up or any product build-up
  • Now, use a wash cloth and run it under warm to hot water
  • Squeeze the water out and put the cloth on your face for 30 seconds. The steam is going to help clean your face
  • Do this again, until you feel your skin is clean or you see no visible oil is left
  • Voila, you’re done!
Taken from Internet
My Experience
I looooove using oils on my face. Not only they make your skin super soft and acne-free, they also help in removing dirt and makeup!
Hope you guys found this post useful!
Lots of love.
